WALUXSANTÉ aims to develop cross-border cooperation in healthcare between Luxembourg and Wallonia within the two Cross-Border Functional Areas (ZFT): Luxembourg-Northern Wallonia and Luxembourg-Southern Wallonia. In response to the challenges facing healthcare systems (increasing demand for care, an ageing population, a rise in chronic diseases, and a shortage of healthcare professionals) and the limitations of healthcare provision in rural border areas, WALUXSANTÉ aims to:
To produce a socio-health profile of the two ZFTs;
Implement the Belgian-Luxembourg framework agreement on health cooperation of 29 March 2023, by improving access to care for people living in the border area through the creation of contractual arrangements and a ZOAST to facilitate cross-border access to hospital services and facilities and to healthcare professionals;
Compare cross-border provision of healthcare and home care services, create synergies between existing resources and address the shortage of healthcare staff;
Strengthen training provision for healthcare professionals through the partnership between the Robert Schumann University of Applied Sciences (HERS) and the University of Luxembourg, aimed at making healthcare professions more attractive.
